250 years of Jewish life in Sweden will be celebrated in 2025
In 2025, Sweden will celebrate 250 years of organized Jewish life in the country. This milestone recognizes the establishment of the first Jewish community in 1775 and will feature nationwide events, educational programs, exhibitions, and public discussions. A dedicated Task Force is overseeing the initiative, working with institutions like the Living History Forum and Swedish Arts Council.
The project aims to promote understanding of Jewish contributions while also addressing antisemitism. The official visual identity for the celebration was launched by Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson earlier this year on Holocaust Remembrance Day. Efforts include educational outreach in schools and communities, development of learning materials, and financial support for projects marking Jewish culture and history. The anniversary also coincides with 80 years since the liberation of Auschwitz, further emphasizing the importance of historical memory and cultural inclusion.
