Elmo went on an antisemitic tirade — and it strangely isn’t the first time
Elmo’s official X account was recently hacked, spreading antisemitic and conspiratorial posts referencing Jeffrey Epstein and calling for violence against Jews. Although the posts were quickly deleted and the account secured, the incident shocked fans and highlighted ongoing issues around digital safety and platform abuse.
This isn’t Elmo’s first association with antisemitic controversy. In 2012, a man dressed as Elmo in New York’s Central Park delivered antisemitic rants, gaining viral attention and concern. Both events illustrate how even innocent or beloved characters can be hijacked to amplify hate.
The recent breach comes amid a broader surge in antisemitic rhetoric online, often linked with conspiracy theories involving Jewish control, Epstein, and global elites. Sesame Workshop has stated it's taking steps to prevent further misuse.
