Black and Jewish college students explore shared adversity and allyship at DC-area ‘Unity Dinner’
Over 100 Black and Jewish students from universities around Washington, D.C. gathered at George Washington University for a “Unity Dinner,” organised by United Negro College Fund (UNCF), Hillel International and the Blue Square Alliance. The evening began with lighthearted icebreakers — even a debate over whether a hot dog counts as a sandwich — before shifting into deeper conversations about identity, community and belonging. Students sat at small tables to share personal stories, connect across histories of marginalisation, and rebuild ties between Black and Jewish communities in a spirit of allyship and understanding.
