Marcel Marceau’s Holocaust heroism is the focus of a new off-Broadway play

Marcel on the Train, a new Off-Broadway play premiering in February 2026, will explore the real-life heroism of famed mime Marcel Marceau.

Written by and starring Ethan Slater, the production tells how Marceau used silent performance to save Jewish children during WWII, guiding them across the French-Swiss border.

First workshopped in 2024, the play is a creative blend of biography, history, and theatrical innovation. It aims to spotlight how art can be an act of courage.

Slater, a Jewish actor, says he was deeply moved by Marceau’s little-known acts of resistance.
