On the menu at this New York City book club: Deep discussions about Jewish identity

At Balaboosta in NYC's West Village, Lit Club, founded by Kelly Chervin, hosted a Jewish literary dinner during Jewish American Heritage Month. Attendees, many meeting for the first time, brought books reflecting their Jewish identity, sparking discussions on heritage, diaspora, and memory.

Chervin, of Puerto Rican and Jewish descent, created Lit Club as an inclusive space for literary exploration without strict reading requirements.

The dinner provided a non-religious environment for participants, many from interfaith backgrounds, to connect and share personal narratives about being Jewish in 2025.
